Singapore & Impressions

I was in Singapore for 5 days and had an amazing experience which compelled me to write this. Since I am marketing, I was helping sales set up and run a booth at Singapore’s prestigious FinTech Festival this year (2016). I woke up late and was rushing to the SG Expo centre from my hotel in Clarke Quay. When I left the taxi at my destination, I conveniently forgot both my phone and my wallet (with SG $700+) inside. 3 minutes in, and I had no phone, and no money except the 20 dollars the driver had tended in change. I am from India, and had no expectations, zero.
I asked the next cab driver, and he said I should call the lost and found. “Maybe you get it back, maybe not. I can’t help you.” (Think Singapore Accent). At this point, given the years of experience in India, I was resigned to buying a new phone.
Well, long story short. I called the cab company I thought I had used. The nearest 7-11 helped me call them. Then the concierge at the expo centre took over, and called my friends at the company booth. 20 minutes later, the driver was handing me my things, 100% intact. He definitely deserved the $50 tip, if for nothing else but the awesome foxtail he was sporting on his head. Time and time again I have been surprised while I travel, and this time  Singapore gets 5 stars in my book.
